When I took French in high school my teacher Madame Kelly, a beautiful French lady, tried to explain many things about France, especially its food! One thing she told us is that in France salads are very different. You wouldn't have a side salad with lettuce, tomato, carrot, cucumber, etc., but usually would just have one vegetable in your salad.
Years later at college I was at a party and one girl brought a tomato salad--slices of tomato with seasonings. I can see what the French like about it!
Despite being inspired by the French, I call this Italian Tomatoes because I use Italian Seasoning.
This Italian Tomatoes recipe is one of my favorite ways to eat a tomato, and is healthier than salad dressing. I love that it only takes a minute to make.
Italian Tomatoes
2 medium tomatoes
1 pinch salt
1 pinch coarse ground pepper (more flavor than pepper that's ground to powder)
1 pinch Italian Seasoning (or use a mixture of oregano and basil)
Slice the tomatoes and sprinkle on salt, pepper, and Italian Seasoning. Arrange on a plate and enjoy. Serves 2.
I like to drizzle olive oil on mine. And/or serve over toast as a sandwich. I also remember learning about this in French class! It is yummy!
